Why I haven’t been posting for awhile

August 30, 2004

Took a much-needed week off from all things computer, to visit NYC and Michigan. Pictures and a detailed write-up on the entire trip are forthcoming, just as soon as work lets up long enough to allow it.
And rest assured, regular writing will resume shortly on The Chron, ToGawp, Hooplog, (the newly-launched) TrojanWire, Kyle Bunch’s [...]

Now THAT’S Entertainment

August 23, 2004

Brooks & Dunn, Wayne Newton, “actor” Stephen Baldwin and actress/model Bo Derek are the headlining celebrities scheduled to appear at this week’s Republican National Convention.
Should be fun stuff. I’m sure it will be hard for New Yorkers to resist.

Apple Tablet PC? iPod Controller Screen?

August 13, 2004

The Register is talking about an Apple Tablet PC. I’d bet my money on some sort of digital entertainment controller/touch-screen. Something to allow you to put all your media on your PC (or better yet–Mac/iPod), stream it (via AirPort Express), to your existing home entertainment system. And I’m sure I’m not the [...]

eBay buys 25% of Craigslist

August 13, 2004

Well, I was slightly off; my call was that Google would invest in Craigslist. But it sounds like eBay beat them to the punch.
Good for eBay, good for Craig & Co…..nice to see well-run, simple sites get rewarded.
Viva the nerd revolution!

Sony can make technology; still no idea how to use it

August 12, 2004

Jim Gilliam reports on Sony’s spamming policies:
I just got a spam from Sony. I promptly clicked on unsubscribe and was taken to their website. I clicked the submit button which resulted in this: “Please allow 30 to 45 days for your preferences to take effect. Thank you.”

August 9, 2004

Jessica Coen, who blogs/writes the excellent site the blueprint (and used to be a neighbor of mine) just got the call to the big leagues. She was announced this morning as the new Editor of Gawker.
Kudos to all involved.

Was W. really a spy?

August 8, 2004

There’s no bloody way in hell I really believe this GQ article on George W. Bush’s secret life, but I will say–it makes for a good read.

Is America a country full of haters?

August 8, 2004

Jeff Jarvis has an exceptional post examining the intense hatred that is in the air in America right now:
We have slid to dangerous depths of presidential hatred in this country.
Both sides are plenty guilty: the rabid righties who hated Bill and Hillary and the seething lefties who hate W. Two wrongs make too many wrongs. [...]

Adios, Fox & Glove

August 6, 2004

If you’re a Laker fan, you better sit down.
The rebuilding process continued on Friday, with Gary Payton & Rick Fox being sent to Boston, and the Lakers picking up Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins and Marcus Banks.
That’s right….Chris Mihm and Chucky Atkins.
I’m still in shock. It may not even be a bad deal for the [...]

Greed can make you do stupid things

August 4, 2004

In Erick Dampier’s case, greed made him turn down a guaranteed $16.8 million over the next two years, looking for money he thought he deserved after 1 good season, only to wind up with $4.7 million.
In the immortal words of Nelson Muntz….

HA HA!

NYC from Above

August 2, 2004

I’ll be heading to New York City in a couple weeks. So I figured I’d get myself (and my vast readership) into the mood by enjoying a birds’ eye view of NYC, from of moblogging ironworkers (talk about a BAD time to be messing with your cell phone–yikes!).

One Exceptional Post: how to be creative

August 2, 2004

This is a great example of why (beyond mere hype) so many people have such a big boner for blogs. Semi-edited, semi-professional, uber-impactful.
