Ok, for starters let me just say, I like video games. They are uber-nifty, and keep getting better and better every year. And as a one-time Maddenaholic, I am definitely excited by all of the progress that gaming has made.
That being said, all this talk about the game industry being bigger than the movie industry is insulting to our intelligence. Yes, Halo 2 and Grand Theft Auto had huge first week sales; this however, does not mean that the game industry has now surpassed the earning power of the film industry.
Fortunately the Grumpy Gamer has taken the time to issue a formal dispute of the "game industry is now bigger than the movie industry" poppycock with a cursory examination of the dollar figures. And guess what…..Hollywood is still making far, far more money than the gamers. Like, $10 billion more.
In other words….keep up the good work gamers–you’ve got a long way to go before you catch your non-interactive celluloid stepfather.
