From PaidContent:
Amazon.com, still trying to figure out its part in the digital media sector, has bought out CustomFlix Labs, a small, Santa Cruz, CA-based company that creates DVDs on demand. Amazon would not disclose terms of the deal, which came three months after the company bought BookSurge, which does the same thing with books.
The goal is to expand Amazon’s already massive catalog and carry titles that may be requested so infrequently that they don’t deserve space in the company’s warehouses. Also, the acquistion could give independent filmmakers a broader venue for selling their work. Amazon already sells CustomFlix titles.
You know would round out those acquisitions perfectly? CafePress, home of The Edge City Catalog.
UPDATE: Oh, and I guess they might pick up Netflix while they’re at it.

I understand the idea behind being able to truly claim that they (Amazon) sells everything under the Sun, at least when it comes to books and movies. It’s a great marketing boast. However, the problem I have with them is they sell everything. It is one thing to sell all lawn furniture available for purchase. It’s a whole other thing to sell most everything that can be shipped in a corrugated box. I wonder, once Amazon has added several hundred needles to the largest haystack in the world, how will they connect that small market inventory to the small, niche-driven markets dotted throughout the world?
