The talk of the morning…

…seems to be The Onion’s redesign and opening of their news archives/removal of the walled garden.  The goal was to make the site look as much like a real news site as possible, and I’d say Mission Accomplished, complete with RSS feeds and daily polls.
Hats off to Khoi Vinh and the Behavior Design team responsible [...]

Charlize Theron Gets ‘Arrested’*

Big cameo news for the best "sitcom" on TV — from the Hollywood Reporter, via MSNBC:
LOS ANGELES - Oscar winner Charlize Theron is set to add some star
power to Fox’s "Arrested Development" when its third season debuts next
month.
Theron has signed on to guest-star in five episodes of the critically
acclaimed black comedy, playing a British woman [...]

SBC to become AT&T?

BusinessWeek is reporting that SBC will take AT&T’s name when they complete their acquisition of their former parent company late this year.  Looks like the 120-year-old phone/communications brand will live on.  No word yet on the fate of Tommy Lee Jones stirring voiceover work for SBC (his best work since The Fugitive).
So Long, AT&T? Not [...]

Won’t someone please think of the pterodactyls?!

From Saturday’s L.A. Times comes news that creationists are buying up the old roadside dinosaurs and turning them into intelligent design adverts–most recently the 45-foot tall apatosaurus and his buddy T-rex that call Cabazon home:
The Cabazon Dinosaurs join at least half a dozen other roadside
attractions nationwide that use the giant reptiles’ popularity in
seeking to win [...]

Katrina

I hope everyone in Louisiana finds somewhere safe to be tonight.
I’ve been following along at NOLA.com’s Hurricane Center and watching Flickr’s Katrina hurricane cluster for updates.  I can’t imagine what it must be like to be there right now.

10 Blogs I’d Take to a Desert Island

Old thread, but I have been meaning to respond, and by gosh, I am going to post a response:

Gawker - Week in and week out, still the best show out there.
Buzzmachine - Jarvis rules. ‘Nuff said.
Tony Pierce - In case I hadn’t made it clear, Tony’s one of the Taco Stand’s biggest influences and remains [...]

New Blogads logo

Blogads asked (finally–no offense, but that logo looks like something carved on a cave wall).  So I figured I’d kick in a couple options…

As you’ve probably noticed, I am partial to green; but I figured I’d crank out one in the current Blogads coloring.
Would love to hear any comments, as long as they aren’t [...]

Arrested Development Syndicated?

TiVo had a little surprise for me this morning–an Arrested Development episode that aired at 12:30am here in L.A. on Fox 11.  From Season 2. And there’s another one every night this week at 12:30am.
Not that I’m complaining about this sudden re-run windfall of the best American sitcom since Seinfeld, but what’s the story?  I [...]

Finding a new place to live…

I am currently on the hunt for a new place to call home.  More on that later…for now, one thing is certain–I don’t want to live at the CIM Group’s Gas Company Lofts in Downtown L.A.
