Hermanns in USA Today

December 31, 2005

Mark Memmott of USA Today wrote an interesting piece on Jeremy’s experiences with Flight 536, the photos he took, and the aftermath.  Being able to witness most of the response first-hand I can say–he really received every possible response imaginable, from being called a hero to the devil.

AT&T to spend $1 billion rebranding

December 31, 2005

That’s the price tag to go from SBC to at&t–and it all kicks off today.  Sad part is, I don’t know anyone who is a customer of SBC that actually loves their service.  So they’re spending a billion dollars to launch a new brand AND supplement their complete and utter lack of any word-of-mouth support.
Can’t [...]

Thinking about opening a coffeeshop?

December 31, 2005

You should read Michael Idov’s story of opening a neighborhood coffeeshop in NYC first.
Ahhh the food service business–always so alluring, and almost always ludicrously challenging for the $$$ you’ll make.

Alaska Airlines: First we nearly kill you, then we trash talk you on your blog

December 28, 2005

I’ve got a tip for Alaska Airlines and their employees:
Spend more time on making sure your planes don’t have holes in them, and less time on the blogs of people who almost died on your hole-ridden planes.

Hermanns survives a hole in his plane’s fuselage

December 27, 2005

Went to pick up my friend Jeremy Hermanns and his fiancee from the airport last night, only to find out their flight was delayed.  Not too uncommon for the holidays, right?
Except, his flight was delayed b/c of a hole in the plane that caused the cabin to depressurize at 30,000 feet.  Thankfully my friends, [...]

Thoughts on Photo Opportunities

December 14, 2005

When the time comes for an executive at your company to pose with the new technology you’re about to introduce, remember these two cautionary images well (from a Japanese PSP game launch and the GameBoy Advanced launch, respectively):

Koreans are smarter than us

December 14, 2005

Or, at least, their cellphone industry is.  Standardized plugs, data transfer cables and chargers?  It seems like some far-off wonderful dream.

Having a party

December 12, 2005

It’s turning into quite a party over at Blogebrity — in addition to Nick, Angelina, Neil, Hermanns and Johns, the Cowboy just showed up.
We’re just one traffic cop away from a great Village People Halloween costume.
If you could be our traffic cop, send me an email at kyle@blogebrity.com.

Daisy Does America

December 6, 2005

Because being the geniuses they are, Courteney Cox and David Arquette just knew that people would love Ali G and the Daily Show ripped off by an unfunny Brit.
Can’t wait!

Huh?

December 6, 2005

Sad/confusing news from L.A. about the death of a relatively-young producer:
Film producer Gregg Hoffman, who developed an eight-minute film into the horror hit "Saw" and its gory successor "Saw II," died unexpectedly after complaining of pain. He was 42.

But you gotta help me with something here:
Hoffman died Sunday at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, where he had [...]

New StatTracker

December 5, 2005

Sure, it’s 3 months late.  But it sure it shiny.  All in Flash, with some nice animations and fairly quick load times.  Still some bugs to iron out, but pretty nice.  Would have been awesome to have from the start.
But better late than never, Yahoo!  Now can you give my team a few more points, [...]

Where’s my monkey ads

December 5, 2005

I think I’d like to see this King Kong movie all the kids are talking about…but I just don’t know if I’ve seen enough previews and sponsor tie-ins to make up my mind yet.

BellSouth: Investing in Idiocy

December 5, 2005

Thursday I called the BellSouth CEO idiotic.
This weekend comes news that the company withdrew donations to New Orleans, b/c the city plans to deploy wi-fi to all of its citizens.
So consider this a retractment–I was way off in my assessment of BellSouth.  The idiocy spreads a lot further than just the CEO.
Note to anyone investing [...]

The Kid & I vs. Aeon Flux

December 4, 2005

Have you heard the story behind The Kid & I, the new Tom Arnold movie that’s littered with burnt-out ’80s and ’90s stars?
Forbes 400 billionaire Alec Gores paid for the movie, which was written by Arnold and directed by Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World).  And Arnold’s co-star is Gores’s son, Eric Gores, who suffers from [...]
