It’s Official…moving to NYC

February 2, 2007

The clock is ticking on my days in LA — only about 15 or so until I bid farewell to Los Angeles and Los Feliz for New York City.
Not sure exactly WHERE in the City just yet….but will provide updates & photos as soon as they’re available.

The Onion blooming next week in my neighborhood*

August 3, 2006

According to my sources (their latest email newsletter), The L.A. print edition of The Onion comes to town on August 10 (not August 3 as the Media Kit would have you believe).  And I was pleased to discover yesterday that I’ll be able to walk right down the street here in Los Feliz to pick [...]

Dumbest. Lawsuit. Ever.

May 11, 2006

A guy is suing my beloved Los Angeles Angels b/c he didn’t get a bag at last year’s Mother’s Day Bag Giveaway at Angel Stadium; his lawyer attempts to explain:
By looking at the bag, you can see a 17-year-old male or female would be just as happy with it as an 18-year-old male or female. [...]

Huh?

December 6, 2005

Sad/confusing news from L.A. about the death of a relatively-young producer:
Film producer Gregg Hoffman, who developed an eight-minute film into the horror hit "Saw" and its gory successor "Saw II," died unexpectedly after complaining of pain. He was 42.

But you gotta help me with something here:
Hoffman died Sunday at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, where he had [...]

A Night at the Emmys

September 19, 2005

Wish you could have attended the Emmys?  Paul Davidson went, survived, and today gives the lowdown, from pre-parties to the main event and Governor’s Ball at the Shrine.  Conclusion: It almost sounds worth it, if they gave you the gift bag’s value in cold hard cash.

Inland Invasion 2005

September 18, 2005

Didn’t make it out to the Inland Empire this weekend for KROQ’s Inland Invasion?  Tony Pierce’s recap is the next best thing to being there.
Sounds like Inland Invasion will settle in just below Arcade Fire and David Bowie at Summerstage 2005 in NYC on my "2005 Shows I Wish I Could Have Made It To" [...]

Finding a new place to live…

August 15, 2005

I am currently on the hunt for a new place to call home.  More on that later…for now, one thing is certain–I don’t want to live at the CIM Group’s Gas Company Lofts in Downtown L.A.

Back-to-back nights of ROCKY!

February 4, 2005

This morning, as every Friday, I received the ArcLight’s email newsletter featuring a rundown of this weekend’s new releases, and their calendar of upcoming events.
Does anyone else find their scheduling choice a little odd here?:

And then, the very next night….

StormWatch ‘05

January 10, 2005

First those crazy water twisters and now 25-foot high boulders?  Why does this just keep looking more and more like a Roland Emmerlich movie?
Mother nature….whatever we did, we’re sorry.

Chris Rock hosting the Oscars

October 14, 2004

Somehow, even though I’m reading it, I still can’t believe that Chris Rock is going to host the 2005 Academy Awards. I’m stoked–beats the hell out of Whoopi or Billy Crystal–but somehow I just can’t imagine it…..seems like quite a few monacles will drop into martini glasses on that Sunday night in Los Angeles.
{from [...]

The Thing About L.A.

July 19, 2004

Summed up so succinctly by Jimmy Kimmel:
Here’s a little secret I probably shouldn’t let you in on, but I will: Wherever you’re living right now, L.A. is nicer. In nearly every category, we win. No reasonable person who has ever spent any amount of time here would argue this — and those who do are [...]

Blogs in the Hood

July 6, 2004

What was once a rather lonely blogscape (barf–did I just coin that phrase–I pray not) here in Los Angeles is turning into quite the festive little party. (Shocker–an L.A. party that took forever to get going, that NEVER happens)
The newest kid on the block is LAist, from the folks who bring us the excellent [...]

Giving John Wayne the boot for Seth Cohen?

June 9, 2004

I’m a native of The O.C. (the actual place), and I’d love to try and defend my hometown as being more than what is represented on the Fox television show. But then I read about someone SERIOUSLY proposing they rename the airport after the show, which, mind you, is only 27 episodes deep into [...]
